Ranks 130k - 50k

By now you should have your play own play style, this meaning that you home your mouse/tablet in a certain way compared to other players, as well as have different tablet areas or mouse DPI. if you are getting accurate scores this means that you have fairly decent muscle memory and timing. Don't worry if you are not as accurate as you like. Ranks around this area start to take time to gain. If you're a fast learner and have a good sense of rhythm you'll be able to beat maps and get to 50k in now time. for those of you that are having trouble with timing and accuracy you should try mods.

Mods change the way the map loos and feels. They also affect your final score. When you select mods on the Osu! client you'll be given a good few options to choose from. The middle row of mods are the ones you want to look at. This middle row will increase your score and how many performance points you gain (basically you'll be getting more ranks if you get a good score with mods on)

HR (Hard Rock) - Makes the notes appear quicker as well as make the circle size smaller and the map is put upside down.
-This can help A LOT with accuracy and will make you a fast player faster... compared to a no mod player. There are not really any negatives to playing Hard Rock apart from losing your timing on slower maps.

HD (Hidden) - Makes the notes disappear just after they appear.
-This can be really good for learning to look ahead of the notes on the screen. as well as improve your photographic memory within the game. it helps visualize where notes will be and to look ahead of the game. There is a down side to this. If you play it too much you will end up being reliant on it.

Next ill be talking about ranks 50k-15k and higher star maps.
Ranking from 800k-130k

Once you've made it to around rank 800k. Ranking up won't be as easy. But it's still very easy. keep doing what you're doing and look for songs that are still around the 2 star mark. By now you might have even finish some 3 star maps. keep going at these maps until you''re about rank 200k. This will take a few days but the first few weeks of osu! is just learning the different patters on maps as well as speed and beats per minute. all the time you've been playing you have been adapting to various different patterns and you're probably setting up some muscle memory in your wrists for mouse/Tablet movements across your screen to hit notes.

Tips to get faster

Changing the screen resolution:
So you've probably been playing in full screen mode all this time. This isn't an issue, but it may be limiting you. Some of the best players in the world play on full screen mode. But they have a lot of room on their mouse mat. a high percentage of players on Osu! lower their resolution by quite a bit just so they don't need to move their mouse/Tablet as much. This can benefit people quite a bit when it comes to not having enough room on your desk.

Get a tablet!(if you want)
A lot of the top tier players use a pen and tablet. The ones you use to draw with. these help improve accuracy ALLOT. You can adjust the area on the tablet so you don't need to keep dragging your arm around the whole thing as oppose to just moving your wrist. There is no specific tablet that is required, mostly any will do. Here is a list of the most popular tablets that players use.

CTL-460 - (Only available through E-bay)

Huion - H420 - £12

Wacom Intuos (small) - £50

Tillerino

Tillerino is a bot account on Osu! It is a bot that sends you ranked beat maps around your skill level. I'm only mentioning this now because it's hard for the bot to get an accurate reading of your skill level when you're such a high rank. I'd say you should start using Tillerino at around 180k ranks. You can gain access to him by simply adding him on your osu! client. Start a chat with him and you can use various commands. just start of with one simple command like. /r nomod. This will give you a ranked beat map that requires no mod to gain ranks.

3-4 star maps

This should get you to rank 130k very quickly as long as you are accurate and persistent when beating maps. You'll easily be able to beat 3-4 star maps at this rank.

Next i'll be talking about using mods and the pros and cons that come with them.

Starting out (Ranks: 3m-800k)

When you start osu!. To gain your rank you will need to play a ranked beat map. At this current time most maps on osu! are ranked, so you shouldn't have any issues with finding a ranked one. All you need to do is finish a ranked beat map and you'll get your rank. (You'll be a very high rank at the start.)

Its very very easy to gain ranks when you're just starting out. after one or two songs you will have got the rhythm down and will be able to hit notes with 100% accuracy, and probably have almost gained ranks while you were at it.

Actually farming ranks

Once you feel you have the basics of the game down you can then move on to try to gain ranks and climb the ranked ladder. you'll probably be start at around rank 2-3 million.

As I mentioned before. Gaining ranks is very very easy when you just start out. Finishing any song will give you a fair amount of ranks. You could easily gain 1 million ranks in about an hour. At the lower ranks it can take days and months of practice to gains just a few ranks. so it's not always this easy.

1 - 2 Star Maps

At the start of the game you'll probably only be able to beat 1 - 2 star maps. Most players just naturally gain ranks over their first few days of playing without even realizing it. When you're playing a map try to hit a note with a 100% accuracy. The higher your accuracy is at the end of a song the more ranks you can gain. Trust me this makes a difference. getting a 95% accuracy score compared to a 98% score can be the difference of a few hundred ranks at higher ranks. So its good to try and train your accuracy early for later use.

Most people read the 'difficulty' and make the mistake that it will be a hard map. The user who makes the map you're playing names each difficulty and can write things like 'Hard Mode' 'Insane Mode'. A good tip would be to look at how many stars the map is and not what the 'Difficulty' is. People like to make maps look harder than they actually are thus resulting in people being put off them.  but it can be the difference between gaining ranks and not gaining ranks.

More maps can be downloaded from the Osu home page. a tip would be to download the popular maps. most of them have a 1-2 star difficulty rating.

Next i'll be talking about 'Tillerino' and gaining ranks from 800k-130k as well as higher star maps
